Job Summary

Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Irrigation Manager to oversee the planning, installation, and maintenance of irrigation systems in our landscaping business. As an Irrigation Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of irrigation technicians, ensuring efficient water management, and maintaining irrigation systems to meet client needs and industry standards. Your expertise in irrigation techniques, team leadership, and project management will contribute to the success and growth of our business.

Responsibilities:

  1. Irrigation System Management:
    • Plan, design, and oversee the installation of irrigation systems based on client requirements, site conditions, and local regulations.
    • Conduct site assessments to determine water requirements, soil conditions, and irrigation system needs.
    • Select appropriate irrigation equipment, including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and sensors, based on project specifications.
    • Ensure proper installation and configuration of irrigation systems, including pipe layout, valve placement, and controller programming.
    • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of irrigation systems to identify and resolve issues, such as leaks, blockages, or malfunctions.
    • Monitor and adjust irrigation schedules, water flow rates, and system settings to optimize water efficiency and plant health.
  2. Team Leadership and Supervision:
    • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of irrigation technicians, providing guidance and support in their daily activities.
    • Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of projects.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to promote professional growth and development.
    • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to safety protocols.
    • Provide training on irrigation techniques, equipment operation, and proper water management practices.
  3. Client Consultation and Relationship Management:
    • Consult with clients to assess their irrigation needs, provide expert advice, and develop customized irrigation solutions.
    • Collaborate with the sales team to prepare estimates, proposals, and contracts for irrigation projects.
    • Maintain regular communication with clients, addressing inquiries, providing project updates, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
    • Conduct site visits to monitor irrigation system performance, address client concerns, and offer recommendations for improvements.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, such as property managers, landscape architects, and local authorities.
  4. Water Conservation and Efficiency:
    • Implement and promote water conservation practices and strategies to minimize water usage and optimize irrigation efficiency.
    • Stay informed about local water regulations, restrictions, and conservation programs.
    • Evaluate and recommend the use of smart irrigation technologies, weather-based controllers, and moisture sensors to improve water management.
    • Educate clients and team members on water-efficient irrigation practices, including proper scheduling, maintenance, and plant water requirements.
  5. Budgeting and Resource Management:
    • Assist in the preparation and management of the irrigation department budget, ensuring financial targets are met.
    • Monitor expenses, equipment inventory, and material usage related to irrigation projects.
    • Coordinate with the procurement team to ensure timely availability of irrigation equipment and materials.
    • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new equipment or upgrades to improve efficiency and productivity.
  6. Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices in irrigation operations.
    • Develop and enforce safety protocols, including proper equipment use, personal protective equipment, and vehicle safety.
    • Conduct regular safety training sessions and toolbox talks to promote awareness and prevent accidents.
    • Investigate and report any accidents, incidents, or near misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in irrigation management, including design, installation, and maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Strong knowledge of irrigation techniques, equipment, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with local water regulations, conservation practices, and water-efficient irrigation technologies.
  • Proficient in irrigation system design software and controller programming.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate irrigation equipment.
