Job Summary:

The Snow Equipment Operator plays a crucial role in maintaining safe and functional outdoor spaces during winter weather conditions. This position requires skilled operation of snow removal equipment and the ability to work efficiently in challenging weather conditions. The Snow Equipment Operator is responsible for clearing snow and ice from various surfaces, such as parking lots, sidewalks, and roads, ensuring the safety and accessibility of these areas. The ideal candidate will have experience operating snow removal equipment and a commitment to delivering high-quality snow removal services.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  1. Snow Removal Operations:
    • Operate snow removal equipment, such as snowplows, loaders, snow blowers, and salt spreaders, to clear snow and ice from designated areas.
    • Follow snow removal plans and designated routes to ensure efficient and thorough snow removal.
    • Clear snow from parking lots, sidewalks, entrances, and other outdoor areas, using appropriate equipment and techniques.
    • Apply de-icing agents, such as salt or sand, to surfaces to prevent ice buildup and ensure safe conditions.
  2. Equipment Maintenance and Inspection:
    • Conduct pre-operation inspections of snow removal equipment, ensuring proper functioning, cleanliness, and safety.
    • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on snow removal equipment to keep it in good working condition.
    • Report any equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor or maintenance team for prompt repairs.
    • Adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while operating snow removal equipment.
  3. Safety and Compliance:
    • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself, coworkers, and pedestrians during snow removal operations.
    • Stay updated on snow removal best practices, industry regulations, and weather conditions that may impact operations.
    • Comply with local regulations and environmental guidelines related to snow removal and salt/spreader usage.
    • Report any safety incidents, accidents, or near-misses to the supervisor immediately.
  4. Documentation and Communication:
    • Maintain accurate records of daily snow removal activities, including equipment usage, areas cleared, and materials applied.
    • Communicate and coordinate with supervisors and team members to ensure efficient snow removal operations.
    • Provide clear and timely updates on completed work, areas in progress, and any obstacles or challenges encountered.
    • Interact professionally with clients, responding to inquiries, addressing concerns, and maintaining positive relationships.
  5. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in snow removal operations.
    • Provide feedback and suggestions to supervisors regarding equipment performance, operational strategies, and safety practices.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, new equipment, and snow removal techniques to enhance skills and knowledge.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • This position requires a satisfactory completion of a DMV Motor Vehicle background check.
  • Proven experience (2 -3 years) operating snow removal equipment, such as snowplows, loaders, or snow blowers.
  • Knowledge of snow removal techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including cold temperatures, snow, and ice.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as required during snow events.
  • Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy objects and withstand outdoor work conditions.
