Tree Climber
Position Summary:
The Tree Care Climber plays a vital role in supporting the Foreman with daily tree care operations, including climbing, pruning, removal, and site cleanup. This position requires a strong understanding of safe climbing practices and proper pruning techniques to ensure high-quality service and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Climb trees using rope and saddle systems to perform pruning and maintenance operations.
- Prune and/or remove large trees and shrubs using industry-approved methods.
- Operate and drive tree care equipment such as aerial lifts, spray trucks, and tow-behind chippers.
- Maintain clean and organized job sites following each project.
- Provide exceptional customer service and represent the company professionally.
- Follow all company safety guidelines, including Employee Safety Requirements.
- Perform first aid, CPR, and aerial rescue procedures as needed.
- Control lowering ropes and supply tools for other crew members.
- Cut, chip, and load brush and wood; maintain and prepare tools and equipment for use.
- Act responsibly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Work a full-time schedule of five consecutive 8-hour days, with the ability to work overtime as required.
Job Requirements
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to exert up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 50 lbs. frequently, and 20 lbs. constantly.
- Capable of lifting body weight up a rope into a tree.
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, gripping, twisting, and balancing.
- Ability to climb trees using arms, legs, hands, and feet, and maintain stability while working aloft.
- Frequent bending, pushing, pulling, and repetitive movements.
Other Responsibilities:
- Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.
- Serve as acting Foreman when needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in tree trimming, climbing, or related formal training.
- Strong understanding of climbing techniques, pruning methods, and safe tree removal practices.
- Ability to identify and solve problems through observation and analysis.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Valid California Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor physical work in varying weather conditions (20°–100°F), including light rain.
- Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise, and common pollutants in the landscaping industry.
- Frequent work near traffic and operating machinery in busy commercial environments.
